Where Is It

A result of a hydroelectric project, Deep Creek Lake is the biggest freshwater lake in Maryland. It’s located in the Appalachian mountain range, west of the Allegheny Front on the plateau tablelands (Allegheny Highlands) in Garrett County, Western Maryland. Around the lake are the towns of McHenry, Grantsville, Friendsville, and Accident. Attractions dot the area, such as water sports activities, including the area’s famed white water rapids (natural and constructed), and nature appreciation with access to big national parks with outdoor activity areas.

How To Get There

You can drive to Deep Creek Lake from three possible starting points: Pittsburgh, Baltimore, MD., or Washington, D.C.

Coming over from Baltimore or Washington, D.C., take I-70 West to I-68 West, then exit at 14A (Route 219 South).

From Pittsburgh, PA., take the I-79 South to I-68 East, and exit at Friendsville onto Route 42 South. From Route 42, it merges into Route 219 South, leading you into Deep Creek Lake.

Price Matters

How much can you earn if you venture into a rental in Deep Creek? As of February 2025, the average price for homes in Deep Creek Lake, Maryland, is $349,900.
